Senior/Experienced Accountant – Public Accounting

Location: Houston, TX

About the Role

We are a public accounting firm in Houston seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a close-knit firm environment, enjoys direct client interaction, and wants more ownership over their work than a large firm typically allows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and S-corp tax returns for a diverse client base
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide advisory support
  • Identify process improvements and tax-saving opportunities for clients
  • Perform tax planning and research for clients across various industries
  • Prepare and review compiled financial statements for closely-held businesses
  • Reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries, and manage general ledger activity
  • Supervise or mentor junior staff/bookkeepers as the firm grows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
  • CPA license (active) strongly preferred; CPA candidates with relevant experience will be considered
  • Minimum 1-3 years of public accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of tax preparation software (e.g., UltraTax) and QuickBooks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client deadlines
  • Ability to work independently in a small-firm environment with limited hierarchy
